A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a famous Pakistani filmmaker, has won her second Academy Award, making her the first Pakistani to win two Oscars. During the 88th Academy Awards ceremony, she was awarded in the category of Documentary (short subject) for her film, A Girl in the River: The price of Forgiveness. The film presents the story of Saba, an eighteen year old girl from rural Pakistan, who survives to tell her story after being targeted by her own father and uncle in the name of religiously motivated honour killings. Every year more than 1,000 girls and women are the victims of these killings in rural Pakistan.

Sharmeen has previously won the Academy Awards for Saving Face in the same category in 2012. Saving Face was one of the entries in Film Southasia 2013. FSA Team would like to congratulate Sharmeen on her amazing feat!
