Synopsis

In Kachin State of Myanmar, more than half of the youngsters are addicted to opium, sold with the help of a corrupt police. Citizens raise a militia to fight the dealers themselves, but they have to confront not only heavily armed drug dealers but also opium farmers and a government that does not care too much about Kachin – a Catholic state in a Buddhist country.

ABOUT DIRECTOR

Born in Kachin, John La Raw was a Catholic priest, a radio announcer and a writer before he took to filmmaking. He took two years to edit all the footage he shot for Opium War, finishing it in 2019. Meanwhile, he did his Masters in filmmaking at Chungang University in Seoul and shot his first feature Ma Ma in Myanmar with the help of his Korean classmates.
