The Unreserved is an inquiry into the lives of passengers who use the Unreserved Compartment, the cheapest way to travel across India on the Indian Railways system. The film portrays the passengers’ aspirations, efforts and opinions through conversations and personal stories.

Samarth Mahajan is a young filmmaker from Mumbai, India. The Unreserved is his debut feature documentary. He previously directed Kazwa – A Million Lanterns, a short documentary which went on to win international recognition. When he is not mixing travel and culture with storytelling, he creates advertisements for growing brands. His love for wordplay and food takes up his spare time.
